I have a big dream to read all of the famous forty.
First of all, I'd like to start from the first book, the very famous one, "The Wizard of Oz."

I've been an Oz fan for thirty years ever since I was a child. I read the series in Japanese before because I couldn't understand English very well. Now my English is better than before. I'd like to try to read the oz books in their original English versions, just little by little.
I didn't know there were so many books.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a favourite? Also, are the stories all connected? In other words, is it necessary to read them in order from one to forty?
Airth-san! Thank you for your questions. I'm really glad if you like Oz series.
ReplyDeleteI think the first fourteen books are a better start because they were written by L. F. Baum, the original author. The books from fifteenth to fortieth were written by his successors.
I think you can enjoy whichever book you choose. Each story ends in one book.
However, some characters and some episodes appear in several books, so if you want to know everything about Oz, I recommend you to read in order from the first book. But, to be honest, some books are a little bit boring. ;P
Moreover, Baum sometimes forgot what he wrote already. For example, Munchkin Country should be in the eastern of Oz, but in some books, it is written in the western. Haha. Only easygoing people who don't care about small things can be Oz fan ;D
My favorites are:
"The Land of Oz"(2nd) great twist ending
"Ozma of Oz"(3rd) lovely antagonist
"The Patchwork Girl of Oz"(7th) attractive characters
"The Tin Woodman of Oz"(12th) The Tin Woodman seek for his girlfriend who was the cause of his tin body. surprising but plausible ending
Some books are a little boring?! Ha ha ha! I had no idea that Baum didn't write all of the books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendations. It looks like I should start from book 2. I always like a good twist.
Airth-san, I hope you'll like it. ;D
